| The Williamsburg Community Builders Association is a Council of the Peninsula Housing & Builders Association. WCBA was formed in 1997 to address local issues of concern specific to the James City, Williamsburg, and Upper York County areas. WCBA met the 1997 membership goal of 100 Charter members. Business firms may elect to be a WCBA Member on the PHBA membership application. At this time, there is no additional charge to join the Council. WCBA conducts a monthly membership meeting, usually on the first Thursday of each month. The program generally consists of Council business and a speaker. The charge for these lunch meetings depends upon the sponsorship. An eighteen to twenty member Executive Committee, elected annually by the WCBA membership, governs the Council. The Executive Committee meets at least once a month on the third Tuesday. Three Additional Committees meet on an ad hoc basis. The Chairman of the Council sits on the PHBA Board of Directors. WCBA is involved in a variety of activities. Some activities include roundtable meetings with local government staff to discuss builder/developer issues. Other activities include educational programs to inform members on new building code issues, legislative issues, etc. WCBA also involves members in community service activities. One such activity recently completed is the construction of Hospice House, which opened its doors to residents in March 2002. Members of WCBA contributed over $500,000 in goods and services to the project. The facility valued at $1 million, is a community resource that enhances the quality of life for people facing the final phases of life, and provides support for their caregivers.
